Overview
Established in 1966 as the successor to the Navy’s Bureau of Naval Weapons, theNaval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) is headquartered in Patuxent River, Md., with military and civilian personnel stationed at eight locations across the continental United States and one site overseas.NAVAIR’s mission is to provide full life-cycle support of naval aviation aircraft, weapons and systems operated by Sailors and Marines. This support includes research, design, development and systems engineering; acquisition; test and evaluation; training facilities and equipment; repair and modification; and in-service engineering and logistics support.NAVAIR is organized into eight “competencies” or communities of practice including: program management, contracts, research and engineering, test and evaluation, logistics and industrial operations, corporate operations, comptroller and counsel.  NAVAIR provides support (people, processes, tools, training, mission facilities, and core technologies ) to Naval Aviation Program Executive Officers (PEOs)and their assigned program managers, who are responsible for meeting the cost, schedule, and performance requirements of their assigned programs.NAVAIR’s affiliated PEOs are:

  • PEO for Tactical Aircraft Programs, PEO(T)
  • PEO for Air ASW, Assault and Special Mission Programs, PEO(A)
  • PEO for Unmanned Aviation and Strike Weapons, PEO(U&W), and

Pfhotonika will be at the Clean Tech regional Awards ceremonies on Thursday, October 17th at the Cable Center on the University of Denver campus

Overview

The Pfhotonika system consists of a fully integrated off-grid renewable energy storage and delivery system. The initial system for military applications is comprised of M103 trailers packaged with a fold-out 5kW /50kW /100kW solar array on one or more trailers and an energy storage system and control module on the second trailer. Excess solar power is converted into high pressure (350-2000psi) hydrogen stored on the vehicle in lightweight carbon fiber tanks. The stored hydrogen can be used to supply a 5kW/ 50kW/ 100kW fuel cells for distributed power generation or the hydrogen could be used to fill balloons for artillery range or communications applications. Also, a connection to diesel generators is provided to generate hydrogen and top off the batteries to utilize wasted generation capacity for later use via the fuel cell when generator sets are operating on partial load or standby modes. An on-board programmable controller with a Bluetooth hardened handheld tablet manages all of the various hybrid power distribution schemes to best make use of all energy from storage in batteries or hydrogen to direct solar power feed and/or fuel cell power.

Specifications

  • 5 kW/50kW/100kW output
  • Solar panels mounted on a lightweight aluminum structure
  • One person can open the panels and operate the hydraulic controls to unfold and tilt
  • Solar array to optimize energy capture. 5kW in 15 minutes.
  • Automatic hydraulic leveling/stabilization system for the trailer including
